Services + Expertise

Through Maull Justice Consulting I deliver expert witness and consulting services for racial justice cases in California, as well as research and report writing on racial justice topics and trainings on race, racism, and the racial justice act to public and private organizations. With a focus on consulting with attorneys, document review, declaration writing, and trial testimony, I bring ten years of in-depth research and teaching experience in race and racism within the criminal justice system, as well as three years of experience acting as an expert witness in RJA cases, starting with one of the first in the state. My expertise extends beyond RJA motions and into all intersections between race, racism, and the legal justice system. 

Research + Report Writing

  • Evidence-based reports and policy briefs.​

  • Analysis of sources and evidence - video and audio, official policy documents, court records, media stories, transcripts, statistical analyses, raw numerical data.

  • Mixed-method analysis - summary statistics; complex regressions or statistical comparisons for effect size and significance of correlations; qualitative analysis of text and behavior, linguistic analysis, historical context, patterns, and themess. 

 

Declarations + Testimony

  • Free Initial Consultations - so that I can stay objective in my decision about whether I can take on a case. If I can’t, I can give suggestions and outreach using my extended network of academic contacts.

  • Consulting for legal strategy - I can help work out if there is a case here, but also suggest questions to ask in cross-examination, documents to request in discovery, arguments to pursue.

  • Document Review - I can review documents including body-worn, interview room, and dashboard camera footage and audio; court transcripts; police reports. Implicit bias is often visible in small statements, word choice, etc., but I can find things that a non-expert wouldn’t.

  • Declarations - I provide clear and compelling declarations that explain important concepts, recount history, detail my methodology. I break down my argument and root my analysis in academic citations.

  • Experienced Testimony - I’ve given testimony before and have done a number of moots for direct and cross examination. I’m prepared to educate the court, defend my findings, and explain concepts in plain language.
